Biography:
Rathgar Hockey Club is Ireland's newest hockey club, founded recently in 2011. It was created from the merger of Diocesan Hockey Club and Rathgar Chiefs Hockey Club
Diocesan Hockey Club was founded in 1961 by then Head Mistress Miss Jean Scott and P.E. & hockey teacher Joan Blackmore (nee Matthews). The club was called Od Diocesan Hockey Club as its members were all past pupils of Diocesan School. When the school amalgamated with The High School in 1974, the "Old" was dropped and the hockey club became Diocesan Hockey Club.
Rathgar Chiefs Men's Hockey Club was founded in 2010 by graduates of Dublin University.
Both clubs trained and played matches out of The High School and after initial discussions, it was agreed to combine the two clubs and as a result Rathgar Hockey Club was formed.
