Loreto Hockey Club was founded in 1926 and is affiliated to the Leinster Branch of the Irish Hockey Association. Loreto is currently one of the largest and most successful ladies clubs in Ireland with over 100 playing members making up their 6 Senior Club league teams and Vets team along with a thriving Junior section which caters for over 400 players from 5 to 15 years of age.
As a club where players of every standard can enjoy playing hockey, their approach is one of participation and enjoyment for all. Loreto is committed to excellence and success through healthy competition for team places and contesting for honours at all levels in Leinster and Ireland.
The Club has proudly produced many Senior International players over the years including current Senior International players Nicci Daly, Ali Meeke and Hannah Matthews and also Nikki Symmons, who currently holds the title of most capped Irish Hockey player in history (208 caps). Previous international players include Niamh Small, Lizzie Colvin, Louisa Healy, Cathy McKean, Caitriona O'Kelly, Mary Barnwell, Sarah Rand, Aoife Pomeroy and Ann Murray.
In the recent past Loreto has been very successful at national level winning the Irish Senior Cup in 2002, 2003 and 2009 and the Irish Hockey League in 2009. They also featured in the Irish Hockey League Final in 2003, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2013. Their success in these two competitions has qualified them to compete at European Tournaments in Vienna, Amsterdam, Rome, Lille and most recently in Leicester in June 2014 where they secured the Bronze Medal in the Eurohockey Club Champions Trophy Tournament.
Located at Loreto Hockey School Beaufort in Rathfarnham Dublin 14, the club has excellent facilities for all to enjoy playing hockey, with a sand-dressed astroturf pitch and a training pitch, both with floodlights, and a two-storey clubhouse complete with viewing balcony.
