Biography:
Pembroke Wanderers Hockey Club was founded in 1922 and located on the same site, in Serpentine Avenue in the Sandymount area of south Dublin, where the Club is still located. Our name is taken from the Earl of Pembroke who owned a large tract of land in this area of Dublin.
The Pembroke Wanderers’ crest incorporates, the history and aspirations of our Club; the Castle - signifying Dublin, our capitol city, the Tent - Wanderer’s emblem signalling our intention to tour and travel, the Crossed Hockey Sticks - the game we all love and Our Colours - Purple, Amber and Black.
Pembroke Wanderers’ grounds are located only a few kilometres from the city centre, in the shadows of the Aviva Stadium, the home of Irish Rugby and the National Soccer Team and the RDS, Dublin’s famous exhibition and trade centre.
Pembroke Wanderers’ state-of-the-art facilities, which include a water based pitch and a sand based training pitch, are easily reached by DART, by bus and by car or indeed, on foot. We are surrounded by a plethora of sporting clubs and facilities, which must make the Sandymount/Ballsbridge area one of the most densely populated sporting suburbs in the world!
Pembroke Wanderers cater for hockey at all levels, from our first teams that vie for the coveted Leinster League and Irish Hockey League titles to our lower and veteran teams that compete on a more recreational basis. Pembroke Wanderers has around 250 adult hockey enthusiasts, who play for the 8 Ladies’ and 6 Men’s teams that we currently field.
Pembroke Wanderers has one of the country’s largest and most vibrant junior sections, with over 450 boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 16. Every season all age groups take part in a number of non-competitive matches, tournaments and regional blitzes. Our objective is to provide a safe and fun environment in which 25 coaches and managers every week take to the pitch to develop the hockey skills of these young players, preparing them to eventually compete at a senior level. Please find our website at: http://www.pembrokewanderers.ie or ring us on telephone number: 01 658 5217
