INTER-PRO PROGRAMME 2022-23 SELECTION NOTICE
August 25, 2022
The 2022-23 InterProvincial competition starts for Girls on Sunday 4th September
Leinster will be playing Connacht in the first round at Under 16, Under 18 and Under 21. The matches are kindly hosted in Wilson's Hospital School, Mullingar.
Leinster South will be playing Munster at Under 16 & Under 18. Those matches are being hosted by Munster in the Mardyke in UCC.
The Boys competition starts on Sunday 11th September - Leinster will be playing Munster in the first round at Under 16, Under 18 and Under 21. The matches are being hosted by Munster in Newtown School, Waterford.
Following the latest development phase, which included a residential camp and matches in Munster, Inter-Pro panels have been selected and players have been notified.
In addition to the Inter-pro panels, academy panels have been selected as follows
U15 / U17 / U19 Academy: players have 2 years eligibility and are being kept in the programme for their long term development / working towards selection for next year's team.
U16 / U18 / U20 Academy: players are only eligible for 1 more year in their age group. Coaches will discuss with each player the plans for 2022-23 by the end of September and agree whether it is appropriate to keep them in the programme or to release them back to concentrate on club/school.
Leinster Boys and Girls Panels were announced to players over the weekend and can be found HERE
Leinster South players will be advised of their status on Monday and the online selection document will be updated on Tuesday.
We will also be updating the online document to include specific training days, venues and match dates for you to reference during the season - each player will also know their own schedule.
In general, the teams will train on Sundays and this is the training/match cycle
Week 1: Inter-Pro Match
Week 2: Gap
Week 3: Inter-Pro and Academy Panels train
Week 4: Inter-Pro panel train
Some players from the academy panels may be invited to the Week 4 training sessions, e.g. if they are being called into the match day squad as a player or a reserve.
Players on Inter-Pro squads are expected to
Prioritise National / Provincial training and matches
Train with the provincial team twice per month and play a match if selected.
Finally, I would like to draw your attention to some key selection policies.
Leinster Hockey junior age grade provincial players are expected to adhere to the
JAG International Player Welfare Guidance – Hockey Ireland
Players found to have completed more than 6 pitch sessions per week in the weeks leading up to an Inter-Pro match are not eligible for selection for that match
Players who play two matches on a Saturday are not eligible for selection for the inter-pro match on the Sunday
Players must take 1 rest/recovery day per week; ideally on a Monday: This means no pitch/technical/tactical sessions (players may of course participate in PE classes in school)
Players who exceed 6 sessions or who do not have a rest/recovery day may not attend Leinster Training the following Sunday and this may have an impact on selection decisions
