Trevor Watkins to become Hockey Ireland Chairperson
June 10, 2021
Trevor Watkins has advised the Board that he will be resigning his role as Chair of the Leinster Hockey Association at the end of June following the announcement from Hockey Ireland that he will be taking on the role of Chairperson with the National Governing Body.
Speaking earlier Trevor said that he “had enjoyed his time as Chair of Leinster Hockey immensely and was hugely encouraged by the energy and innovation within the province – particularly after such a challenging year due to the pandemic. This is an exciting time for hockey and everything is possible for our clubs, players ,coaches ,umpires and volunteers.
We should not be afraid of change - the bulk of our members are under 25 and they live in a digital world of information and data, they also have priorities in their social lives and it is vital we listen and adapt to make hockey an important part. We also have to make our game easy to play for all age groups, our sport is a sport for life”.
Emily Jones (LH Secretary) thanked Trevor for his work with the Association over the last two years noting the encouragement and support in particular he gave to fellow Board members, Committees and Clubs around the province adding that “the Board and wider Leinster Hockey family look forward to working with Trevor in his new role with Hockey Ireland”.
