LHA Inter Provincial Development 2019 Update (Boys Programme)
May 20, 2019
The LHA Interprovincial assessments /trials for boys are coming to a close over the coming weeks. 194 players have been assessed (an additional 27 nominated players did not attend, and there are 19 players on national panels).
The trials were very competitive. Players were offered two assessments and were measured across a range of different exercises to test their speed/agility/athleticism, their decision making, current ability and “coach-ability”.
Summer training panels are being selected to train over the summer months. This programme will include a strength and conditioning component. Players will be strongly encouraged to take their family holidays and a forced break will be included in the programmes to ensure all get a break.
The inter-provincial competitions will take place from 12-15 September in Ulster. The final squads of 18 players will be selected the week beginning 12th August. Note that a large number of players on national panels do not join the programme until after they are released by Ireland on 12th August.
Players who attended the assessments, but were not brought forward to the next phase will receive general feedback on the areas that the coaches felt players were falling down on. Given the numbers of players at trials and the limited time, it is not possible to personalise the feedback. This will give them general areas to concentrate on if they attend any camps over the summer or when they return to club/school hockey in the autumn.
LHA Boys Stage 1 (born 2006) and Stage 2 (born 2004 & 2005)
Following the initial assessments, players have been selected into two separate groups.

These players will be called back to be evaluated again in the Autumn/Winter.

Players have been invited to attend the development sessions and will be divided into teams to play training games against Ulster at the end of May.
The programme will continue after the training games and will include a conditioning component. The finer details are still being worked through. Players have been asked to make an initial payment towards the first development sessions and then a 2nd payment will be due after the matches vs Ulster
We are aware that a small group of players are also sitting their Junior certificate exams - these players do not need to attend the midweek sessions in June.
That will conclude this phase of the development and a smaller panel of 24- 30 players will be invited to continue with the programme from the middle of July until the squad is selected during the week beginning 12th August.
